Potato chips are America’s #1 snack food and that makes “National Potato Chip Day” a celebration worth having. March 14 is in fact National Potato Chip Day and as the brand that represents the nation’s #1 genre of music, Rap Snacks is celebrating. Today we highlight the artistry and flavor that we bring to the potato chip industry, a collage of culinary flow that’s simply unmatched.
George Speck (also known as George Crum) was a member of the Mohawk tribe and thought to have African American ancestry. He’s often credited with creating the potato chip while working as a chef in Upstate New York, in 1853. As the story goes, On August 24, 1853, an unhappy customer kept sending his potatoes back to the kitchen, saying that they were thick and soggy. Speck showed him– he sliced the potatoes as thin as possible, frying them until crisp, even adding extra salt. Ironically, the customer loved them. The new creation became a regular item on the menu under the name of “Saratoga Chips” and the rest is history. That was the beginning, Rap Snacks has taken the artistry to its ultimate destination.
Before the larger brands embraced the richness of the flavoring that we’ve always been known for, we dared to be different. We were proud to introduce honey barbecue flavored chips, well before it was considered standard. Rap Snacks considered innovation and risk-taking with flavor profiles as standard operating procedure from the start and now, the industry is catching up. Innovation, bold exploration and an unwavering commitment to uplifting others sums up the Rap Snacks brand and that’s not something anyone else can put in a bag.
