Migos is the biggest hip hop trio to ever do it but still, growth is inevitable. Migos’ own Quavo has been tapped to star in Takeover, a new action thriller headed to the big screen soon. Takeover is being produced by Quality Films, the film division of Quality Control, the management company behind Migos, Lil Baby and Lil Yachty, to name a few. Movies are made everyday but this is different: a Black owned hip hop agency is flexing its film muscles, using its own artists to headline the project and having mainstream cultural impact. Quavo is now the face of a new normal in which hip hop has conquered the film industry, from the inside out.
Rappers have starred in movies before but seldom have Black owned companies gone beyond providing the talent but also controlling the production end, also. Quality Control Music, a Black owed management firm, has made a name for itself by managing and promoting top-notch hip hop talent but the founders, Kevin “Coach” Lee and Pierre “Pee” Thomas, have their eyes set on much more. Entertainment is a commodity and who said that rap was the only aspect of it that Black talent can control? Quality Films is taking that same drive and genius and targeting the film industry and we can’t wait to see what develops from this project; that’s especially true given Quavo’s emerging film resume.
Quavo has also made appearances in Atlanta, Narcos: Mexico, and Black-Ish. It’s clear that his talents expand far beyond the mic and this will be a great opportunity for him to showcase that to the world. This film is yet another indication that hip hop has come of age and as the #1 genre of music, its influence can’t be contained.
